A gate agent used to wave a comfort animal into the cabin much like a guide dog. That stopped. In December 2020 the Department of Transportation finalized a rule that took effect in early 2021, and it tied cabin access to one thing only, whether the dog is individually trained to do a task. The Department of Transportation narrowed the air-travel definition of a service animal down to a dog of any breed that is trained to do work for a disability. So the bond is unchanged. What changed is the counter you walk to and the document you carry.
